Origin Of “Kunci Inggris” Word
Did You Know?
Why in Indonesia this thing is called “kunci inggris” ?
Do people abroad also call it “kunci inggris” ?
In some countries such as Denmark, Poland and Israel this tool is known as the “Swedish key”. While in France, Germany, Portugal and Netherlands call it “English key”. The mention of the “Kunci Inggris” in Indonesia is based on the previous Dutch colonial era, this causes the mention of the English key to be translated by Indonesian citizens into the “Kunci Inggris” that is used today.
The wrench was indeed invented by an English inventory named Richard Clyburn in 1842. Over time, the design of this wrench was refined by a man from Sweden named Johan Petter Johansson in 1892.
This causes the difference in the mention of this tool in each country, while in England itself the wrench is not referred to as an English key, but they mention it as “Adjustable spanner”.
